Still Looking for the Answer

Yesterday I posted a picture of this object and asked your help in finding out what it is.

So far I have had two suggestions as to what it might be.

Some of us from the Somero English Club met for coffee today and Kyösti suggested that it looked like the type of item that a man would make to impress his financee.  He told me that historically in Finland when a man proposed to a woman he would make something to prove to her what he was able to make and how skilled he was. This sounds like a plausible idea...although unfortunately neither Kyösti nor anyone else was able to suggest what the poor lady was expected to do with this wooden object!

A second suggestion came from Katy in france who suggested that it could possibly be a mould to make soaps.

Any more ideas anyone?  Or does someone know for sure what this object might be?  If so I would still love to hear from you.
