Somero Through English Eyes

Have you ever wondered how your own town would look to someone from abroad who was seeing it for the first time? Well, this weekend an old friend of mine who lives in England, Linda, came to visit Somero and it was her first visit. She loved the town and has promised to come back again in the summer!

Finnish post boxes
I took her for a tour of the town in the car, and as we were driving round she pointed out all the things that immediately struck her as being different from the things you would normally see in England. By doing this I started seeing the type of things that make Finland Finnish.

Each time Linda noticed something which seemed different or unusual, we stopped and took a picture so that I could share with you the things that look interesting to someone who visits the town for the first time and is seeing Somero through English eyes!

These are the things that she saw...

Piles of logs....

Somero's Church

Jyrki clearing snow from the roof of Tarjoustalo

A garden swing outside Lamminniemi Wellbeing Centre

Ladders leading up to the rooves

Brightly coloured houses.....

Amazing play equipment in Somero nursery

Linda enjoying a Cafe Latte

Linda was fascinated by all the things she saw and loved Somero. She also commented on how well organised the Finns seem to be in order to cope with the winter weather.  She was impressed with the snow ploughs, how warm the houses are inside and how little traffic there is compared to what she is used to in the UK. She also found all the people she met in Somero to be really friendly and definitely plans to come back. I am looking forward to her seeing the town when it is at its best in the summer. It won't be long now....the snow is starting to melt now and spring is almost here!
