Wishing you all a Happy Valentine's Day from a very snowy Somero!
I have just got home from helping out at the Svensson House in Somero this morning where there was a Friendship Day lunch for anyone who wanted to come. More than forty people turned up, so the event was a great success. I will tell you more about what happens at Svensson later this week as it is a really special place and open to everyone in the community.
Here in Finland, February 14th is called Ystävänpäivä, and is all about friendship - all kinds of friendship. In our family though, with the strong British and French elements in it, Valentine's Day remains more of a romantic occasion. In both the UK and France, Valentine's Day is not celebrated between friends, but by those in a romantic relationship (and also those who wish they were in one!)
Couples celebrate the day by going out for a meal or staying in a hotel...this evening in both countries all the restaurants are guaranteed to be full. In the UK the tradition is also to send Valentine's cards to your secret love without signing them, so the recipient is left guessing as to who is admiring them from afar.

To all our friends, old and new, I wish a happy Ystävänpäivä. Thank you all for being there!

The highlight of my day when Jody totally surprised me handing me her precious copper coffee pot in our English speaking group tonight. The full story of the pot is told on Jody's blogs starting on 29 th January and then on 11th of February. I think the right person to get that pot was the lady in her story, still i am pleased and happy she gave it to me. Maybe i will give it to some nice person on some another Valentine's day but right now the pot and me are shining here, the pot on the bookshelf and me at my laptop. Thanks a lt Jody

Congratulations to you Manu! You have earned that gadget..case closed! ;-)
In fact,if pondering a bit more that "pot ceremony" perhaps we all as a group got something at that moment! All in all, once again a joyful meeting at Kiiruu. And the time flew so quickly that even the electricity had to give us a sign to stop - the blackout in the end!

Manu was the perfect person to keep the coffee pot! The most charming thing about him is that he has no idea himself what a nice person he is to spend time with or how interesting he is. We are lucky to have him in the class.
